b. 1994 in Ecuador/Italy

Elio Wong (1994) is a visual artist and musician who graduated from DePaul University in Chicago. He has taken independent workshops on color theory, abstraction, and layered painting. His work explores pictorial abstraction through scribbles and elements composed of accidents or chance. His knowledge in music production has served as inspiration to support his compositions of elements derived from music. He has exhibited individually and collectively at HYBRID Art Fair in Madrid, Espacio Cultural Plaza la Fuente (Guayaquil), Piso 4 Art Gallery (Guayaquil), Natuzzi Editions (Guayaquil), and the Art Gallery of the Guayaquil Country Club. He currently lives and works in Samborondón, Ecuador.

Wong uses acrylic paint, oil pastel, and colored pencils to create compositions containing shapes, spontaneous brushstrokes, and invented languages that redefine expressionism through abstraction. His work elevates the act of creating through accidents or chance. He often uses scribbles, a graphic element loaded with memories and value from childhood, when the artist took them as an expressive medium without the intention of creating figurative images that adhere to drawing principles.

Elio Wong believes in the existing duality between art and everyday life. He enjoys exploring angles or paradigms that limit exploration or creation through established norms or concepts. For him, his works stem from the sincerity of the moment, with the intention that the viewer does not feel alien to the understanding that decisions within art are not confined to the concrete knowledge of a discipline.
