Hybrid 2023

In the vibrant stage of contemporary art, Hybrid Art Fair 2023 stood out as a beacon of innovation and artistic diversity. This international event, known for its disruptive approach and support for emerging and mid-career artists, was the perfect platform for the Pro Arte Ecuador Foundation to showcase the talent of six outstanding Ecuadorian artists.

Under the auspices of the Pro Arte Foundation, Pamela Suasti and Poli Lunar from Quito, along with Chay Velasco, Jimmy Lara, Elio Wong from Guayaquil, and Erick Franco from Manabí, brought their creations to Madrid, fulfilling the objective of promoting the emerging national contemporary art in a renowned international event.

The artists’ experience was not limited to exhibiting their works in rooms 209 and 210 of the Hotel Petit Palace Santa Bárbara, the venue chosen by Hybrid Art Fair, but also included a rich cultural exchange as they interacted with artists from around the world and visited prominent museums such as the Prado, Reina Sofía, Thyssen Bornemisza, and Soroya.

The artistic proposals of the six Ecuadorian artists dazzled visitors with their diversity and depth. From Polett Zapata’s paintings inspired by family archives, to Jimmy Lara’s photographic depigmentation technique, Chay Velasco’s multicolored architectural structures, Erick Franco’s bacterial structures, Pamela Suasti’s hand-kneaded wet filter fabrics, and Elio Wong’s spontaneous stroke paintings, each work conveyed a current of national artistic rebirth.

Ana Sanfrutos, co-director of Hybrid Art, praised the proposal of the Ecuadorian team as “wonderful, varied, and reflecting the quality emerging art that the country has.”

Participation in Hybrid Art Fair 2023 not only meant a unique opportunity for Ecuadorian artists to expand their professional and cultural horizons but also to enrich the international artistic panorama with the freshness and innovation of their proposals. This event reaffirms Ecuador’s position as a breeding ground for artistic talent and promises a bright future for national contemporary art on the global stage.
