José Antonio Cauja (born in 1954 in Guayaquil) is a prominent Ecuadorian sculptor known for revitalizing the art of volumetric forms in Ecuador. Inspired by the country’s rich sculptural history, Cauja combines figurative painting with contemporary elements. His sculptures, made in wood, metals, and marble, reflect a deep exploration of nature and ancestral civilizations, merging simple forms with intricate details. Cauja studied abroad, obtaining a scholarship to study in the Soviet Union in 1981, where he honed his technique and won the First Prize at the Festival of Art for Foreign Students. His talent has been recognized both nationally and internationally, with exhibitions in cities such as Quito, Guayaquil, Berlin, New York, and Barcelona. His work transcends traditional boundaries, earning prestigious awards and a reputation as one of Ecuador’s finest sculptors.
