b. 1997 in Accra, Ghana
Samuel Sowatey began pursuing his dream as an artist in 2012 while in secondary school, despite facing challenges such as a lack of proper materials and tools. He had to create them himself, employing ancient techniques in material production.
In 2015, after completing secondary school with an impressive academic record but without support from his parents, he started working with his grandfather in a carpentry workshop. From there, he began saving money to continue painting in a self-taught manner.
Between 2016 and 2017, Samuel transitioned to becoming a full-time artist, and after several attempts, he succeeded in securing an exhibition at the Omanye House Gallery in Ghana.
Since then, his recent exhibitions include: The Boundary and Beyond Figure at the Arushi Gallery (Los Angeles, USA), ArtVilnius, Tumo Gallery, Sharing a Moment: Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Tumo Gallery, The True Me: Contemporary African Art Exhibition at the Tumo Gallery, My Profile at Chilly Art Projects, Contemporary African Art: The Dreams and Realities of Identity at the National Art Museum of Lithuania, “4×4 + 1” at Chilli Art Projects.
